Mission Statement

We must regard ski racing not as a sport of brute force, using muscle rather than mind, nor as a drag race of human inertia; but as an art form, where the best athletes carefully craft each turn with the utmost precision and accuracy. Ski racing is a sport for thinkers, a sport comprised of meticulously controlled aggression with one objective: speed. As my career mounts, these calculated, thorough decisions are imperative to reach my ultimate goal of being one of the best ski racers in the world. Completing this charge, in my opinion, requires a multi-phase process of lowing my world rank through continental competition in Europa Cup and Nor-Am Cup events, securing a World Cup starting spot through strong performances in continental cups, scoring World Cup points, and eventually breaking through onto the world cup circuit as one of the best skiers in the world.

There are a couple considerable challenges that loom ahead this season. The first is racing without a full-time coach and ski technician. This will force me to expend a considerable amount of time managing my schedule, setting up travel and training, setting courses, tuning skis among many others rather than solely mentally and physically preparing myself for races. Not to mention, the complete lack of video analysis and coaching throughout the season. Not having a coach or a ski technician can simplify things, but not having any video or on the hill coaching from a respected coach is a disappointment. The second challenge is operating as a US athlete without any backing from the United States Ski Team. Like any national ski federation, the USST, is fraught with bureaucratic politics. Either way, they ultimately have the power to limit our start rights in international competition and make this year entirely worthless. We are relying on their goodwill and our past relationships to mollify each situation that will inevitably arise. Either way, I’m ready and excited to race as an independent US ski racer.
